Strut is an AI wardrobe: you photograph your clothes and it suggests what to wear. It is free to use and run by Santiago Simões. This page says what Strut does with your data. The short version: your closet lives on your phone and is backed up to your account, and nothing is sold, advertised against or used to train AI models.

What stays on your phone

Recognising a piece, matching it to your closet, building looks and learning what you like all run on the phone, and once you are signed in Strut keeps working offline. Your closet is also backed up to your account (see "Backup"); everything else that leaves your phone is listed below.

Permissions, and what each is for

Your account

Strut asks you to sign in with Google before you start, so your closet is backed up from the first piece and follows you to a new phone. Strut receives a Google account identifier (not your password, contacts or email address) and gives you its own session tokens, which are kept encrypted on your phone. Your account also gives you hosted AI help and Runway. Signing out clears your closet, photos and settings from the phone, so the next person to use it starts from nothing; signing back in brings back what was backed up.

Backup

Your closet is backed up to Strut's server: the pieces and outfits you created, your photos, your settings (your name, style answers and habits, never your location) and what the stylist has learned about your taste. They are stored under your account only and are not shared with anyone. Strut staff do not browse them. Deleting a piece or your account deletes its copy.

Runway

Runway is the optional social side of Strut. If you pick a handle and share a look, the things you share are visible to other Strut users: your handle, display name, bio and picture, the looks you post with their photos and pieces, your reactions, comments and who you follow. You choose what to post. You can delete posts and comments, block people and report content. Other people's reactions, comments and follows involving you are visible to you.

AI help

Strut's cloud AI is optional and only runs when you are signed in. It goes through Strut's own server; the app contains no AI keys. When it is used, Strut's server sends the minimum to its AI provider, OpenAI, through OpenAI's business API:

Strut asks OpenAI not to store these requests and does not keep them either: the server does not log or store the images, text or answers, only how many requests each account made so that limits can be applied. For each studio photo it also keeps a few numbers to measure what the feature costs: the kind of piece, the image size, what the AI provider charged, and whether your phone kept the photo. These carry no image and stop being linked to your account after 30 days (or when you delete it), and are deleted after 180 days. OpenAI does not train its models on API data by default. The server keeps one thing for a week: a studio photo it made for you, so a repeat request is not made twice, and so the app can fetch the ones made in the background. Those older pieces are sent to OpenAI in batches, which can take up to a day: the server keeps the piece's cut-out only until its batch is back, and deletes the batch files at OpenAI as soon as it has read them.

Strut Plus and payments

Strut Plus is a subscription sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment: Strut never sees your card or payment details. Strut receives a purchase token from your phone, checks it with Google, and stores that token, the subscription's state and when it ends, so your account can be given Plus.

Notifications and Firebase

To send Runway notifications, Strut registers your phone with Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) and keeps the token Google gives it, linked to your account and a random installation id. Notification text names only the other person's handle. Strut itself includes no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services. The Google components it relies on (Google Play services, ML Kit and Firebase Cloud Messaging) may send technical diagnostics to Google, as described in Google's own privacy policy.

What the server logs

Requests are logged with the method, path (without any query), status, duration and a request id, so problems can be fixed. Logs hold no request bodies, tokens, images, prompts, model answers, email addresses or names.

Where it is kept, and for how long

The server and database run on Microsoft Azure in the European Union (Spain); photos are kept in Cloudflare R2, also in the European Union. Your data is kept while your account exists. Sign-in sessions end after at most a year without use. Studio photos made for you are kept for a week.

Deleting your data

In Strut, open Profile → Account → Delete account. This erases your account, backup, photos, Runway posts and profile, purchase record and push registration from the server, and queues your stored photos for deletion. It also clears your closet, photos and settings from the phone. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription: cancel it in Google Play as well. If you cannot open the app, see how to ask us to delete your account.

Your rights

Whoever you are, you can ask what Strut holds about you, ask for a correction or a copy, and ask for deletion. If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or elsewhere with similar laws, those are your rights under data protection law, and you can complain to your data protection authority. Strut processes your data to provide the app you asked for (and, for the optional features, with your consent, which you can withdraw by turning the feature off or deleting your account).

Children

Strut is for people aged 13 and over (older where the law of your country sets a higher age for digital services). It is not directed at children, and an account is not needed to use it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will say so. The date at the top shows the latest version.
